Porsche renames their sports cars

Astro Publication 15/12/2015 | 04:02 MYT
Porsche announces that the cars that we’ve known as the Cayman and Boxster will bare a numeric name starting from the 2016 model changeover. Both cars will be known as the 718 Cayman and the 718 Boxster. The new nomenclature is a nod to the Stuttgart car manufacturer’s 718 to the ground-breaking sports car of the same type from the year 1957.
The decision came from the growing similarities between the Cayman and the Boxster, both visually and technically. Porsche has already announced that both cars will be powered by equally powerful four-cylinder flat engines with turbocharging. Hence Porsche AG has rebranded the cars into the 718 model with a roadster variant, the 718 Boxster, and the coupe variant, the 718 Cayman.
Porsche’s 718 is the epitome of success powered by a four-cylinder flat engine, it was the successor of the legendary Porsche 550 Spyder and it has enjoyed massive success in the motorsport scene.
Expect to see the remodelled Cayman and Boxster over the course of 2016, by then these cars will be known as the 718 with the Boxster priced higher than the Cayman.
