Possible extremist attack in Kuala Lumpur not true - Police
Royal Malaysian Police
Messages of possible attacks at various spots in Kuala Lumpur by extremists are not true, police said today.
In a message posted on its Facebook page, the Royal Malaysian Police said they have traced the messages which have gone viral on various social media platforms, advising the public to be careful when visiting several locations in Kuala Lumpur as it may be attacked by extremists.
Police said the messages included possible racial fights in the name of race and religion.
“All these information are false as they were spread by irresponsible quarters aimed at disturbing the public peace,” it added.
According to police the incident which took place in Plaza Low Yat had only involved two quarters with no connection to racial issues.
“Although this issue (Low Yat Plaza incident) has ended, irresponsible social media users continue to manipulate the Plaza Low Yat issue could cause racial tension among the people,” it stated.
According to police, legal action could be taken against those responsible in spreading such information under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
