KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) Chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says he is saddened by Pejuang's poor performance in the 15th General Elections (GE15), but accepts the people's choice.
The former Prime Minister said all his party could do now was monitor how the next government would lead the nation.
"Pejuang could not even be in the opposition in the Dewan (Rakyat), and had to drop whatever plans it had for the country,” he said in a statement today.
Following this, Mahathir said he would focus on writing about historical events in the country.
"Many events that have occurred in the country have not yet been recorded, including what happened in British times."
He added that he was open to be interviewed by an author.
Mahathir was among 373 of 946 parliamentary candidates who lost their deposit in GE15 last Saturday.
The veteran politician failed to defend his Langkawi parliamentary seat from GE14, garnering just 4,566 votes in a five-cornered fight.
Pejuang also lost all 125 seats it contested in, including Pejuang President Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir who lost his Jerlun seat.
