Postponement of admission: Consider RM500 one-off payment to affected students - UMNO Youth

KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO Youth has suggested that the government consider giving a one-off payment of at least RM500 to all students of higher learning institutions (IPT) who were affected by the recent decision of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

Its chief, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the payment was to reduce the burden of those who have incurred early expenses including transportation costs and house rental advance before having to abide by the decision to postpone the admission of students to campus for this October academic session.

"Although the ministry has a strong justification for not wanting to take risks with the current COVID-19 epidemic, the last-minute decision has in fact affected most students.

"Therefore, UMNO Youth suggest that the MOHE bring this proposal in the Cabinet meeting this week to consider the proposal to reduce the burden of students and their families," he said in a tweet on his Twitter account on Monday.

Last Friday, MOHE suggested that all IPTs postpone physical or face-to-face registration for new and old students for admission to campus this month.

MOHE informed that the decision had to be made for the well-being and safety of all parties, following the sharp spike in COVID-19 cases at this time.
