Pas vice president Salahuddin Ayub is bullish Pakatan Rakyat is capable of clinching 12 Parliamentary seats in Johor in the upcoming 13th General Elections based on the efforts of the coalition members in the state over the past year.
Salahuddin said a study conducted by Pas and fellow Pakatan members showed the voters in the 12 Parliamentary seats – Ledang, Bakri, Muar, Batu Pahat, Gelang Patah, Simpang Renggam, Segamat, Labis, Pontian, Tanjung, Piai, Pulai and Teberau - are prepared to vote in their favour.
“I am confident Pakatan Rakyat will be able to emerge victorious in those 12 areas,” said Salahuddin.
“To rule Johor is a bonus, God willing,” he added during an interview with Astro Awani at the Harakah office.
Word has it that Salahuddin could be named the Menteri Besar of Johor if Pakatan Rakyat dominates the state seats.
The Kubang Kerian Member of Parliament said the 12 areas have a balanced racial composition.
“With a balanced mix of races in the area, I believe we stand a good chance,” he added.
BN had recently listed five hot Parliamentay seats, namely Kluang, Gelang Patah, Kulai, Segamat and Bakri. All those areas have a total of 11 state seats.
In the 2008 elections, BN won 25 Parliamentary seats and only lost one seat to DAP. BN also won 50 state seats while Pas and DAP won two and four seats respectively.
