Prada gets hyper-real with Steven Meisel
Steven Meisel is one of the most iconic fashion photographers of all time, with whom all models aspire to work with and in his latest project for Prada Fall/Winter 2015, he evokes the idea of modern femininity. Unlike his past work, the campaign images give a sense of isolation in which the models do not physically make contact with each other within the shot. Meisel reworks the notion of actuality in an ironic ode to meta-modern femininity, bringing to life a feeling of natural elegance, where suspended youthfulness melds with tradition.
Prada’s Pre-fall 2015 campaign took on gender dynamics and it was shot also by Steven Meisel, who is a long-time Prada collaborator. He is an auteur in the cinematic interpretation of the world and his signature of neurotic perfectionism in his vision gives him astounding range, from extravagant couture glamour to clever social satire.
In the latest Prada campaign, the models appear to be in frozen moments of an imaginary story. The soft pastel background delivers a perception that the virtual and real are indistinguishable with otherworldly colours thrown into the mix. The unique construction of the clothes is mirrored in the staging of these wide-screen vignettes, where off-hand gestures and a lively body language are casually presented.
The campaign features up-and-rising models Avery Blanchard, Estella Boersma, Inga Dezhina, Lineisy Montero, Ine Neefs, Greta Varlese and Maartje Verhoef, all relatively new faces but full of potential to deliver the impression of Prada’s hyper-style reality.
