KUALA LUMPUR:As always, he cannot bear listening to the hardships of the people. And Ebit Lew can be counted upon to provide aid.
The generous nature of this independent preacher made him called a 'hero' by the netizens.
He made himself available to provide aid to S. Ganesh, 34, and his wife S. Parameswary, 32, who had been spending the nights in their car for the past eight months in George Town, Penang after their house in Lebuh Carnarvon was destroyed by fire.
In a post on his Facebook page today, Ebit expressed sadness upon learning the story of the couple with their three children before rushing from Johor Bahru to George Town to meet them.
To ease their burden, Ebit shared that he has rented a three-room house for Ganesh’s family and will bear the rent until the couple gets a house under the Poorest People Housing Program (PPRT).
"They have applied twice since their house caught fire. But if they want to continue (staying in this rented house) I will happily continue to pay for them.
"I bought them a refrigerator, washing machine, television, electric rice cooker, a fan, queen and single beds, kitchen items and also provided them some pocket money.
"I was very touched when buying the things for them earlier,” he said in the entry, today.
Ebit said he cried after reading about the fate of the family while he was in Johor Bahru.
"It is so sad that they had to sleep and eat in the car, and bathe in public toilets. Working as a security guard, he (Ganesh) had to bring the family to sleep in the car every night.
"Their house caught fire in April. It feels sad that I slept soundly and ate well, (but) there are people who live near the boot of the car. Confinement after giving birth is also in the car,” he added.
Ebit said the couple's children were so happy to be able to enjoy the cake he bought.
He also described the couple as very good, and they did not stop expressing their gratitude.
"They cried for being overwhelmed. They asked why so many, ustaz? They really like to see the new house which is beautiful and comfortable.
"Glad to see the smile on the faces of these cute children," he said.
Yesterday, Astro AWANI reported that the family of five not only lived in the car but the couple also had to give coffee and biscuits to their children to relieve them of their hunger.
