KUALA LUMPUR: Preparations for the 20th Malaysia Games (SUKMA 2022) scheduled from Sept 16-24 is progressing smoothly and 90 per cent completed said SUKMA 2022 organising chairman Datuk Jana Santhiran Muniayan.
According to Jana Santhiran, preparations include venues, technical support and facilities for athletes.
"We are currently focusing on a strategy to attract fans to come and support the various teams and watch the action at the various competition venues. We are in the process of boosting promotional activities at the ministry level, minister's level, deputy minister's level, schools and media.
"It is our humble appeal to the masses to come and watch the games and boost the spirit of the athletes during competition. Support for athletes is important to excel in their respective sports," he told reporters at the opening of the national level Malaysia Sports League (MSL), here yesterday.
Jana Santhiran who is also the Ministry of Youth Sport's secretary-general said the SUKMA will feature 426 events involving 223 male and 184 women events plus 19 mixed events in 31 sports.
Speaking of the national level MSL, Jana Santhiran said the competition to be held from Aug 26-28, in the Klang valley, will see 15 contingents representing the entire nation, featuring 900 participants.
The MSL will feature five sports, namely futsal, badminton, '3 on 3' basketball, netball and sepak takraw.
