Prices of wet goods expected to rise in several states

The price of wet goods are expected to rise in the first few days of January 2014.
A visit to at several markets noted the increase on the prices of items like local red chillies, big red onions and ‘ikan kembung’ (Indian mackerel).
The increase was between 50 sen to RM6 per kilogramme (kg).
Significant hike in the prices of the three items were found in wet markets in the Klang Valley.
The price of big red onions went up early this year, between RM4 to RM4.20 as compared to RM3.50 before this.
The price of red chillies doubled to RM12 a kg as compared to RM6 last year.
On average, mackerel is sold with an increase of RM2 per kg, compared to its price of RM14.90 before this.
In Pahang, the price of big red onions was maintained at RM2 to RM4 while red chillies at RM8.
The price of mackerel however increased to between RM14 to RM15 per kg. Last year, it was between RM9 to RM10 per kg.
Terengganu managed to maintain the price of its red onions. However, the price of red chillies saw an increase of RM2, to RM10 per kg now.
The price of mackerel, on average, went up from RM10 to RM15 per kg.
The price of red chillies in Kedah remained the same but the price of mackerel increased to RM9, up by RM2 earlier for medium-sized fish and RM7, up by RM3 for small-sized ones.
