The government welcomes any move to privately fund a search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
"Everybody can come in and help...we welcome everybody's help in looking for MH370," he told reporters at the MH370 remembrance event organised by Voice370, a support group for MH370 next-of-kin, here today.
During the event, the group initiated a campaign to alternatively fund the search for the Boeing 777 plane which vanished on March 8, 2014, en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur with 239 people aboard.
Following an agreement between Malaysia, China and Australia, it was announced on Jan 17 that the underwater search for MH370 had been called off after the initial 120,000 sq km search area showed no sign of the plane.
Liow said the hunt for the aircraft would resume if there was credible evidence from experts before moving on to the next search area.
"We are waiting for the experts team to give us more data. As it stands now, we've suspended the search pending the experts team giving us more credible evidence," he said. -- BERNAMA
