Probe on Bill Kayong's murder case still proceeding

Last Friday the police arrested six suspects, including a 22-year-old woman, at several locations in Miri during a two-day operation.
Police investigation into the murder of opposition politician, Bill Kayong will not end with the arrest of the six suspects last Friday, said Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor.
"Although we (police), especially the special force formed to handle the case, have managed to find the weapon used in the murder investigation from all angles, the probe will proceed all all angles," he told reporters at his Hari Raya open house here today.
He said several other angles needed to be considered to complete the investigation before the police could bring the case to court and the outcome submitted to the prosecutors.
Asked on the motive of the murder, Mazlan said the police did not intend to disclose it for fear it might affect the investigation and court proceedings if the case was brought to court later.
To another question, he said the police were investigation the case from all angles, including identifying the possibility the murder of the Native Customary Rights (NCR) activist was mastermined by certain individuals or parties.
He said the masterminds of the murder would not be spared from the law if investigation revealed the existence of individuals or quarters that were the masterminds.
"So far there have been some leads and investigations are also focused on aspects relating to NCR land, involvement of the victim with non governmental organisations (NGO) as well as personal matters of the victim," he said.
Last Friday the police arrested six suspects, including a 22-year-old woman, at several locations in Miri during a two-day operation.
According to Mazlan, one of the suspects arrested had brought the police to his house in Jalan Hai Nam, Miri at about 5 pm yesterday.
At the house, the police found a shotgun which was believed to be used in the murder and a bullet shell.
He said all the six suspects were locals and were being remanded to assist in the investigation.
