DR MAHATHIR: Najib should only come back as Prime Minister once it has been proven that no crime had taken place within 1MDB.
If it can be proven that no crimes happened within 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), and all the (lost) money is returned, then Datuk Seri Najib Razak can come back as Prime Minister and lead Barisan Nasional in the next election.
But until then, the premier should resign and allow a full investigation to be made on the RM42 billion borrowed by 1MDB, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed said.
In his latest blog post today, the former premier said as long as Najib was helming the country, no proper investigation can be made.
“Already we are seeing not only are reports to the police on 1MDB and Jho Low not being investigated, but the person who made the report being declared a bankrupt…being investigated for money laundering and financing terrorists. The court has decided he is not bankrupt,” Dr Mahathir wrote.
He said the 1MDB crisis existed in the first place because Najib, of which as PM is effectively the head of the strategic development company, had allowed the borrowing of huge sums of money and then losing billions of Ringgit.
“The Prime Minister says I am behind the crisis.
“I will admit that I am behind the ‘crisis’. I am behind it because there is a climate of fear in this country.
“(But) By accusing me of being responsible for the crisis, Najib is saying let us accept the disappearance of the billions of Ringgit and behave as if nothing wrong has been done. From the interest and concern shown by the people over the losses suffered by 1MDB, the matter cannot just be ignored. The people responsible must be investigated and if found guilty, they must be punished,” Dr Mahathir wrote.
