The results for the first examination under the new Form Three Assessment (PT3) system were announced on Monday.

Some 453,413 candidates sat for the exam, which replaces the centralised Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) format, conducted at 2,608 examination centres nationwide in October.

Various reactions were received from students and teachers alike, who described the exam as challenging.

PERAK

Sekolah Raja Perempuan Taayah in Ipoh was crowned as the best school in Perak after 123 of its students obtained excellent results in the exam.

Nurunuha Mohd Ismi, obtained 11As, Nurul ‘Iffah Mohd Suffian obtained 9As, Wardatus Syifa Zakaria obtained 8As while the rest obtained 7As.

Nurunuha attributes her success to her focus on her studies apart from encouragement from her parents.

“I’m very happy and thankful to God. For me, it is really important to get your parents’ and teachers’ blessing. It is also hoped that the success we achieve is blessed by God,” she said.

PENANG

Meanwhile in Tasek Gelugor, Penang, three students who sat for the exam at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Al Irsyad obtained straight As.

According to its principle, Abd Halim Abd Hamid, although the school did not achieve its target, the overall performance was satisfactory.

He said, the format for the exam paper was only made known during the middle of the school year, and he attributed this as one of the reasons why the students did not have sufficient time to prepare thoroughly for the exams.

From the 168 students who sat for the PT3 exam at the school, three students obtained 11As, 10 students obtained 10As, 26 students obtained 9As while the rest varied in results from 8As to 2As.

Abd Halim believes the teachers and students are now better prepared to face future PT3 exams.

Some 22,781 candidates sat for the exam in the state which was held at 130 examination centres. Of that number, 155 were private candidates.

SARAWAK

The majority of students in Sarawak described the PT3 exam as difficult because the questions were in subjective format compared to multiple choices questions in previous exams.

They said this had forced them to work extra hard in the revisions because several subjects they sat for were in English.

Niqa Afiwah Mohamad Azman, a student from SMK Green Road in Kuching, obtaining 10As in the exam was not an easy task and she had to pay more attention to Mathematics and Science as both subjects were in English.

“Everything boils down to hard work. I rarely slept before the exams as I would be revising the subject until 4am. I had to force myself to focus hard for the PT3 exams in order for me to obtain straight As,” Niqa said.

Karen Patrick Lai, who also obtained 10s, also described the examination as difficult and was grateful for her success.

“I’m very happy because everyone knows the exam is not easy. I’m proud of my achievements and also proud of my friends. There is still a long journey ahead of us. I’m relieved this step is over,” Karen said.

15 students from SMK Green Road obtained 10s from a total of 332 students.

Some 39,583 candidates sat for the PT3 exam in Sarawak. From that number, 38,239 candidates were from national schools, 1,343 candidates from private schools while the rest were private candidates.

Twitterville also went into overdrive today, with students uploading their results on the social media website.
