A Form Three Assessment (PT3) student was reported to be in critical condition due to leptospirosis.
Fahmi Abd Razak, 15, from Kampung Kubu, Kuala Nerang, who was said to have been suffering from fever since last week, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) on Tuesday.
It was learnt that prior to falling ill, Fahmi went to swim in Sungai Perik, Kampung Perik in Kuala Nerang, with his friends.
His sister, Rahimah Abd Razak, 25, said despite being ill, Fahmi went to his school, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kuala Nerang, last Monday to get his PT3 result.
"He came back from school and asked for medicine and then went to his room. At 10pm my father took him to the Kuala Nerang Hospital and at 2.30am on Tuesday he was transferred to HSB," she told reporters here on Wednesday.
She said HSB conducted a blood test and confirmed he had been infected with leptospirosis.
