PTPTN aims to collect RM100 million a month beginning September

The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) targets to collect RM100 million a month beginning September following the introduction of salary deduction for civil servants.
PTPTN chief executive officer, Agos Cholan however said that efforts to collect loan repayments by the corporation remain unsatisfactory.
He said to date the average loan repayments received by PTPTN in a month is around RM60 million.
As a whole, the PTPTN loan repayment is unsatisfactory however there is an increase from month to month.
“We expect to collect RM100 million a month after September,” said Agos to reporters during a press conference held afterthe launch of the Kelantan PTPTN office at Bandar Baru Tunjong on Tuesday.
He said, until May 31 this year, the corporation collected RM6.3 billion or 46.4 per cent out of the RM13.7 billion supposed to be collected involving 1.7 million borrowers.
Agos added until the end of May this year, over 136,000 borrowers have been blacklisted by the Immigration Department for refusing to repay their loans.
Meanwhile, over 52,000 borrowers had their names removed from the blacklist soon after paying the arrears and making negotiations for periodic repayments.
“As many as 130,000 borrowers had been blacklisted and they are unable to travel overseas.
“Almost 50,000 borrowers have negotiated with us to make periodic payments. Soon after the next repayment is made, they are allowed to travel overseas,” said Agos.
He added, various campaigns will be held to create awareness among borrowers to fulfill their responsibility.
