The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has no authority to withdraw money or gain access to the individual's personal account including Tabung Haji (TH) account.

Its chairman Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said all account withdrawals or transfers regardless from banks or TH accounts could only be performed upon instructions from the account holder.

"PTPTN has not made any agreement to allow direct PTPTN loan payment via TH account," he said in a press conference here today.

Shamsul was commenting on a WhatsApp message where a university student claimed money totalling RM30,000 in her TH account had gone missing and was channelled to PTPTN.

Shamsul said the defamatory remark spread by irresponsible parties had gone viral on Facebook.

Subsequently PTPTN lodged a report with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to stop the issue from spreading, he added.

"We also urge the student to make a police report over the missing money so that the matter can be investigated," he said.

Shamsul said so far the loan repayment could be made at PTPTN counters nationwide, agent counters (Bank Islam, CIMB Bank, BSN, Bank Rakyat and Pos Malaysia), through pay cuts or Employees Provident Fund (EPF) withdrawal from Account II.

In addition, borrowers could make online payment and the transaction must be performed personally by the borrower.
