Pulau Batu Puteh: Malaysia awaits response from Singapore - AG
In 2008, the ICJ had awarded ownership of the island to Singapore.
Malaysia is still waiting for response from Singapore on its call for a review of the International Court of Justice (ICJ)’s judgment over the ownership of Pulau Batu Puteh.
Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali said the republic is expected to reply by June 14.
"Right now, I have five researches in London working on this and it is not over yet as there are thousands of documents that need to be looked at," he said after launching the 17th Asean Senior Law Officials Meeting today.
In February this year, the Malaysian government had filed an application to review the ICJ's judgment on Pulau Batu Puteh following the discovery of new evidence.
In 2008, the ICJ had awarded ownership of the island to Singapore.
It also announced that the sovereignty over Middle Rocks belonged to Malaysia, and sovereignty over South Ledge belonged to the State in the territorial waters of which it was located.
On Feb 4, Singapore said it is studying Malaysia's application for a revision of the judgement.
Its Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they had set up its legal team to respond to Malaysia's application.
