Put right hand on left chest when Negaraku is played - Abdul Rahman
Abdul Rahman, who is also Kota Belud Member of Parliament, said putting the right hand on the left chest is among the new things being introduced for the National Day celebrations.
All staff of the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government have been urged to put their right hand on the left side of the chest (over the heart) when the Negaraku is played at government official functions.
Its minister, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the move will enhance appreciation of the national anthem and symbolise their love and pride in the country.
"I will like to suggest that my ministry get it started, provided it does not violate the law and government regulations. I will check with the Chief Secretary to the Government.
"I urge all staff of my ministry to put put their right hand over the heart when the Negaraku is sung.
"It is a sign of patriotism and more personal. It shows respect for the national anthem," he told reporters after launching Kota Belud Teachers Day celebration at SMK Taun Gusi 2, Monday.
Abdul Rahman, who is also Kota Belud Member of Parliament, said putting the right hand on the left chest is among the new things being introduced for the National Day celebrations.
He will be asking the secretary-general to implement the directive from today, adding the practice can be done, just like police personnel who salute as a sign of respect when the national anthem is sung at government official functions.
