Putrajaya to have a unique Hindu temple
The country's most unique Hindu temple will be built in Putrajaya at cost of over RM12 million, Special Ambassador to India and South Asia Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said. He said the temple, which to be named Sri Lalithambikai Alayam and could accommodate over 10,000 Hindu devotees during a festival, would be built in Precinct 20, here. Samy Vellu, who is former MIC president, said with a unique and modern design and a combination of main characteristics of the temples in North and South India, the temple would also become another tourist attraction in Putrajaya. "The ground-breaking ceremony for the temple is expected to be held in March and the construction work is scheduled to begin in September. We are confident that the temple will be able to accommodate the rising number of Hindu devotees in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and their surrounding areas," he told a press conference here. Putrajaya Corporation has given its approval for the construction of the temple on September last year under Section 22 (3) of the Urban and Rural Planning Act 1976. The construction of the temple is expected to be completed by middle of 2015.
