Qobin to complete 7 Peaks, 7 Continents, 7 Values Expedition

National climber Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin hopes to complete his 7 Peaks, 7 Continents, 7 Values Expedition with his climb to the peak of Mount Carstensz Pyramid in Irian Jaya, Indonesia, beginning this Friday.

He said this was his third attempt to climb the mountain, the third highest in the Australia/Oceania Region after his failure to do so in August 2008 and March 2012 due to bureaucracy, visa and permit problems as well as being cheated by agents.

"This time, I do not want to return empty-handed and will work to finish the mission because no Malaysian has done it before," he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport here today before departing for Indonesia.

Muhamad Muqharabbin, who is better known as Qobin, said his climb would begin this Friday and he expects to reach the peak of Mount Carstensz Pyramid on March 3.

He said the mission to conquer the 4,885-metre high mountain will also be attempted by another climber from Malaysia, one from Indonesia and three from Japan.

Besides Mount Carstensz Pyramid, the expedition which began in 2010, had covered the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania; Mount Aconcagua in Argentina, Mount Vinson Manssiff in the Antartic, Mount McKindley in the United States and Mount Elbrus in Russia
