Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V said quality human capital is the key to the success of Malaysia in the future.
He said only with quality human capital could people improve their productivity and competitiveness as well as explore and exploit the country's advantages and resources.
"Every Malaysian must play his or her role with responsibility, and not be negligent in carrying out their duties to the nation," His Majesty said during his installation as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the Istana Negara here, today.
Sultan Muhammad V also reminded the younger generation as the nation's future, to equip themselves with knowledge and skills.
His Majesty said that there was no ''full stop'' in seeking and acquiring knowledge and skills required by the country.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong said the government's efforts today would be inherited by the younger generation to further the cause of the country.
Therefore, His Majesty said he wanted all youths to seize and exploit the opportunities provided by the government, for the betterment of the country.
"I hope Malaysians will continue to adhere to good moral values and ethics.
"Be honourable, knowledgeable and respectable individuals who are aware their responsibilities to the country," said His Majesty.
Sultan Muhammad V said although the country was hit by the economic downturn, the various measures taken by the government had managed to overcome the external pressures on the economy, especially in dealing with the depreciation of the ringgit.
He said, at the same time people should also express full support to the strategies drawn up by the government to revive the country's economy.
"We will not be able to go further if we are not together in efforts to improve our economy today," he said.
Sultan Muhammad V also said 2017 was very meaningful to him because besides him
being installed as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong , the nation would also be celebrating its 60th year of independence.
As such, he said, the National Day celebrations would be joyful and harmonious, especially since it being close to Aidiladha which is celebrated by all Muslims.
"As has been proven, the people of various races, religions, cultures and way of life can live harmoniously and with mutual respect.
"I hope Malaysians will continue to be united, adopt a give-and-take attitude in bearing the responsibility of a sovereign state because these are our unique features which have been our source of strength," he said.
Sultan Muhammad V also expressed his appreciation to the Government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as well as members of the Cabinet for their continued support to him in carrying out the duties and responsibilities entrusted to him.
"I am confident that with the strong spirit of consensus and understanding among us, I will be able to fulfill my responsibilities more effectively, God willing.
"I also hope the other Rulers will give their views and advice to ensure Malaysia continues to uphold the sovereignty of Constitutional Monarchy in this blessed land," Sultan Muhammad V said.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong also said he was touched by the oath of loyalty and love shown to him by the Prime Minister who represented the government, civil service, security forces and the people during the installation ceremony today.
