QZ8501: Data investigations will take two weeks - Head investigator

The analysis of the AirAsia QZ8501 flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR) will take up to two weeks before the contents can be revealed to the public.

According to Indonesia’s National Transport Safety Council (KNKP) head investigator, Mardjono Siswo Suwarno, his team will have to examine the two black boxes to first ensure they are in good condition.

"If it is certified to be in a good state, it will take about half an hour to download the contents into the computer.

"The FDR contents that are stored in computer codes will have to be translated first, and followed by the analysis which will take about one to two weeks," he told Astro AWANI today.

Mardjono said among other confidential issues from both the recorders are flight movement and the pilot’s command records.

He said the minute details will not be entirely disclosed to the public as there are international procedures to be adhered to.

"However, the brief contents of the data would be known to public when announced, including the ones from the official KNKP website," he added.

Indonesian analysts and investigators are now carrying out data investigation works, collaborating with aviation experts from France, as well as an advisor from Airbus, the plane's manufacturer.
