QZ8501: KD Pahang arrives at search zone
The search zone is divided into seven sectors based on the area name and the monitoring team assigned.
The location of the AirAsia Indonesia Flight QZ8501 search and rescue (SAR) operation which started yesterday has been revealed to the public.
The search zone has been divided into seven sectors based on the area name and the monitoring team assigned.
Royal Malaysian Navy Chief, Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar via Twitter said, each sector has an area of 3,600 nautical square miles (60x60 nautical miles). The whole search area is 25,200 nautical square miles.
The northern sector has been divided into two and monitored by the Malaysian Navy. The KD Pahang ship have arrived in the area and begun search.
This was confirmed by Abdul Aziz via his tweet:

The nearest sector to Pontianak, Kalimantan is meanwhile monitored by the Republic of Singapore Navy.
Five other sectors monitored by the Indonesian National Army is the TNI1, TNI 2 and Patkamla (Sea Security Patrol) PTK apart from the Bakamla (Sea Security Body) Sector and Lanal Bangka Belitung and Basarnas (Indonesian SAR operations).
