Six additional doctors are expected to arrive in Sarawak next week to assist in the vaccination process to curb the rabies outbreak in the state, said Sarawak Veterinary Services Department (JPVS) acting director Dr Adrian Susin Ambud.

"Currently, doctors and staff of JPVS from several districts are here to help. I was informed that next week, six veterinary doctors from the Peninsular would come to assist in the vaccination process.

"The arrival of the six doctors will help us set up six teams (each team comprising one doctor and two assistants)," he told Bernama when met at a mass vaccination campaign in the Serian District Council Office today.

Apart from the council office, the two-day campaign from 10am to 4pm was also held at Balai Babuk Gawing, Serian Community Hall, as well as the Serian Veterinary Office.

A Bernama survey found that the communities around Serian began coming to the centres as early as 9am.

Dr Adrian said he was satisfied with the response of the public who came to get their pets vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat in a statement informed that JPVS had vaccinated 3,785 pets as of this evening, comprising 952 dogs, 2810 cats and 23 other animals.
