Former cabinet minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz has urged today's leaders to resolve current issues and return to the politics of unity and development.

She expressed her concern on Malaysia's future on Astro AWANI's talk show, 'Obviously Harith Iskander', aired Saturday evening.

"The plan is for us to be a developed country by 2020. You know the story, you know the narrative. At the moment we are having some 'problems'.

"We have a big issue. I think you all know. The big issue and other issues should be resolved. Let it be sorted so that the credibility of Malaysia and Malaysians will still be there," she told host Harith Iskander, without mentioning specifics.

She added that such issues should be resolved for the benefit of the future generation.

"We owe our young ones that as this country is theirs now and for the future.

"Lets get on with governing and delivering what we have promised the country and people," she said.

The former international trade and industry minister also touched on the proposed hudud law.

She opined that the move was more political than a religious one.

"To me, this is more politics than anything else and nothing to do with religion. I always say keep religion out of politics. There are three things that you should not politicise: religion, race and education.

"If you politicise it, you cause dissent, concern and more divisiveness."

She also said the country does not need more vigorous laws.

"Frankly speaking, as a Muslim, if we look at the Muslim faith and what we need to do, I do not think we need vigorous laws or more rigorous laws to be enforced.

"Look at ourselves... are we behaving the way we should as Muslims?" she asked.
