Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz underlined three factors that have contributed greatly in the rising growth of innovation in Asia.
The former minister of International Trade and Industry said these factors were political stability, good economic governance and demography dynamics.
"Asia was dormant in the past. But now the rise of Asia has been spurred by several factors including economic and financial globalisation.
"There is an awareness in Asian region that if you work collectively, then you will be able to exploit optimally the economic dimension," Rafidah said during the first plenary session at the "Rise of Asia in the World Innovation Forum KL 2013" (WIF-KL 2013) Wednesday.
Rafidah, who is also the Chairman of AirAsia X. is one of the speakers at the three day forum hosted by the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI).
Rafidah stressed that every Asian country must have political stability and good economic governance as keys to continue to enjoy stronger economic development, that will drive the country forward.
On demography dynamics, she said the focus should be on the younger generation because the future of Asia will depend on this Gen Y group.
"It is easier now as this generation is very information technology (IT) savvy.
"However, the governments of Asian countries must equip them with tools such as computers to use information and communication technology (ICT) for creation and innovation," she said.
