Raging storm damages 37 houses in Padang Terap

A raging storm flattened a wooden house while ripping off or damaging the roofs of 37 houses at four villages in Padang Terap yesterday evening.

The villages affected were Kampung Padang Nyior (31 houses), Kampung Bong and Kampung Padang Chenderai (six houses each) and a house in Kampung Pisang.

A Kampung Padang Nyior resident, Nordin Ahmad, 56, said the roof of his house was blown away and a mango tree uprooted due to the strong winds caused by the storm.

Nevertheless, he was grateful his family members and neighbours were safe.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Rosidi Nyan, 40, said he was shattered after watching the wooden ancestral home left behind by his father, flattened by the storm.

As a result, the self-employed said he and his family were putting up at his brother's house temporarily until the house was rebuilt.

Padang Terap social welfare officer, Kamal Fauzi Othman said the district office would channel financial assistance to the victims who had been provided with immediate aid such as towel, sarong and mats.
