A Rapid Penang bus driver was stabbed in his right thigh this morning by a female passenger who is believed to be mentally disturbed.
In the 7am incident in Relau here, Aisyamudin Yaacob, 27, suffered serious bleeding and still lay unconscious at the emergency ward at Pulau Pinang Hospital at Press time.
It is understood that the woman had attacked the victim as she was unsatisfied that the he had not stopped the bus at the place where she usually alights.
The victim apparently didn’t know of the woman’s condition and preferences as he was just two weeks on the job.
It was learnt that after he was stabbed, Aisyamudin then stopped the bus at the side of the road before asking for help from his colleague who then called an ambulance for help.
The victim passed out due to severe loss of blood and was subsequently rushed to the hospital for treatment. Timur Laut district police chief, ACP Mior Farid Alatrash Wahid confirmed the incident.
He said, the victim is reportedly yet to be in stable condition as the wound hit a main nerve in the leg, which caused the massive bleeding.
He also said the bus was not installed with a closed-circuit television (CCTV).
It is understood that when the incident happened, there were five passengers on board.
The suspect, in her 40’s, had fled when the bus stopped by the roadside, said Mior Farid, adding that the police are still trying to trace the suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
