The RapidKL monorail service will be temporarily suspended on the 12 and 13 April for signaling system upgrades which would take up to 52 continuous hours.
The monorail service will cease operations beginning from 12.01am on 12 April until 4am on 14 April and is expected to continue normal operations by 6am, 14 April.
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, the LRT and monorail RapidKL operator, in a statement said that the temporary closure was agreed upon by Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (SPAD).
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd CEO, Haji Khairani Mohamed apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the upgrades.
“The temporary closure is very important so we can perform this important test for the future,” he said, whilst adding that the system used now was in operation since the monorail started operations in 2003 under KL Infra Sdn Bhd.
To overcome the difficulties that users will face, special buses will be deployed near all monorail stations to help users reach their destinations. They will be charged RM1 per trip.
Acquired by Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) in 2007, the wholly owned government company carried out the KL Monorail expansion in 2011, which encompassed the acquisition of 12 four car trains, the upgrade of monorail stations, the construction of new depots and upgrade signaling systems.
“The new signaling system must be in line with KL Monorail’s expansion,” said Khairani.
He also said that the company would make announcements from time to time to ensure that public’s needs are met via their official website www.myrapid.com.my or through their RapidKL Facebook page or @MyRapidKL on Twitter.
