MELAKA: Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi has been appointed honorary advocate for the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation Regional Centre for Special Education (SEAMEO SEN).
The appointment was made today at the SEAMEO SEN 10th Governing Board Meeting.
SEAMEO SEN specialises in promoting and enhancing the quality of special education needs practices in the Southeast Asian region.
Meanwhile, Ras Adiba, who is chairman of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), described the appointment as a great honour for her and the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) community in this country.
"I am so moved and did not expect this appointment. It is a great honor for me. I hope that our country together with other Southeast Asian countries will unite to ensure that there is no discrimination against children with special needs, " she told reporters at a dinner here last night.
Also present were SEAMEO SEN Malaysia director Dr Hanani Harun Rasit and SEAMEO Secretariat director Dr Erthel Agnes Pascua-Valenzuela.
Ras Adiba said she would focus on, among others, the aspect of learning in schools where parents and teachers would be given full support.
"We are already in 2022 and should move forward to ensure the quality of education for these special children reach its best level," she said.
She said the appointment would also give her a greater opportunity to understand the needs of children in the group, especially in education.
