RC to be imposed on vehicles entering Malaysia from Thailand

He said the move to expand the RC to also foreign private registered vehicles entering the country from Thailand was part of efforts to enhance security and curb cross-border crime.

By implementing the RC, all foreign registered vehicles in the country will be in our computer system, he told reporters after opening the APEC Port Services Council Network here on Tuesday.

He believed that the move would help in curbing crime, especially involving clone car syndicate.

Effective last Nov 1, all foreign private registered vehicles entering Malaysia via Johor are subjected to a RC of RM20, with the RC system activated at the Causeway and the Second Link, the two land entry points in Johor.

Abdul Aziz said the RC to be imposed on foreign private registered vehicles entering the country from Thailand would also be RM20.

On its implementation at the Johor Causeway and Second Link, he said, RM300,000 in RC had been collected since Nov 1.

"It is a transformation carried out harmoniously to improve the quality of the country's transportation infrastructure," he added.

In another development, he said, construction of the proposed inland port at Melaka Gateway, Pulau Melaka, would begin early next year.
