RDC3 to be launched this week - Khalid

He said the centre would be established as soon as possible to fight the spread of militant ideologies and propaganda.

"God willing, we will set up RDC3 this week, however, we need to look at a few infrastructure-related matters first, and then we can 'kick off'," he told reporters after attending the International Conference on Deradicalisation and Countering Violent Extremism here, Monday.

On Oct 21, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had announced that Malaysia would establish the RDC3 to combat the spread of militant ideologies and propaganda on the Internet, after the United States had chosen the country for its commitment towards addressing the threat of international terrorism and cross-border criminal activities.

Previously, Home Ministry Security and Public Order Division Senior Assistant Secretary, Zamihan Mat Zin Al-Ghari in an exclusive interview with Bernama, had said the preparations for RDC3 was in its final phase before being launched.

Meanwhile, Khalid said the police's participation in the 2016 conference could help the department gained new insights in efforts to deal with the threat of militant groups, especially Daesh.

In addition, he said, the sharing of ideas through presentations by the delegates involved would serve to benefit the country in its efforts to rehabilitate terrorists.
