Red shirt rally leader Jamal Md Yunos arrested
He was later brought to the Dang Wangi police station.
Red shirt rally organiser Datuk Jamal Md Yunos has been detained by the police at about 9pm today in Kuala Lumpur.
He was arrested after police recorded his statement at Ampang Jaya police station. He was later brought to the Dang Wangi police station.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad in a statement said Jamal was arrested under Section 105 of the Criminal Procedure Code, over his alleged statements that riots would occur in Petaling Street, this Saturday.
Yesterday, Deputy Inspector General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said investigation papers have been opened and that Jamal will be called soon for questioning.
The Red Shirt rally which had gathered on Sept 16 had among others demanded that the Domestic, Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry act against the alleged sale of counterfeit goods in Petaling Street.
They also wanted the traders there to share a portion of their income with other races and stop a monopoly in the area.
On Wednesday, Jamal who is also the Sungei Besar UMNO division chief warned that another rally will be held at Petaling Street this Saturday if the authorities failed to meet their demands.
Meanwhile, Malay Armed Forces Veterans Association president Mohd Ali Baharom or better known as Ali Tinju said the planned rally on Saturday has been called off on the advice of the authorities, The Malaysian Insider reported.
He said this was to allow the authorities to react to the group's demands that more Malay traders be allowed to do business in Petaling Street.
