Shock and in disbelief. Those were the sentiments felt by regulars at Taman Rimba Ampang about the temporary closure of the park until May 2019.
Notices has been put up to inform the public about the closure to enable the construction of East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE).
Nur Jannah Nazir, 61, who frequented the park ever since she was a young girl felt a great loss that the only green lung available only 2km from Ampang town will no longer be the same.
"I have been to this park every since I was young and I even brought my children and now my grandchildren to this park every week for leisure.
"What a loss as once this park is closed, where else would the children go to play?" said the grandmother of eight grandchildren.
For Mohd Luqman Hakim Kamarulzaman, 17, the clear river flowing through the park is his favourite spot to swim on weekends or school holidays with friends.
"I do not think they should build a highway here as this has been a favourite place for locals to enjoy the greenery and swim in the river, as these green spaces are hard to come by anymore," said the teenager.
Although notices has been put up, few visitors were still seen at the park, enjoying every bit of the green lung before its closure.
Astro AWANI also contacted Selangor State Forestry Department and EKVE, however both parties informed they were not ready to come up with a statement regarding the closure of Taman Rimba Ampang.
