Media statement by the Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel (CCPP) chairman, Tan Sri Johan Jaafar on the transfer of two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) senior officers to the Prime Minister’s Department.
CONSULTATION AND CORRUPTION PREVENTION PANEL: REINSTATE THE TWO MACC SENIOR OFFICERS IMMEDIATELY
The Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel (CCPP), one of the independent external oversight panels monitoring the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is appalled by the move to transfer two senior MACC officers on Friday.
The panel demands that the two officers, Datuk Bahri Mohamad Zin, MACC Special Operations Director and Datuk Rohaizad Yaakob, MACC Strategic Communications Director, be reinstated immediately and to allow them to carry on with their duties.
Its Chairman Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar believes that the transfers will certainly raised eyebrows. There will be more questions than answers and it will create more suspicions and conspiracy theories.
The panel supports the call by the Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin to stop any form of 'intimidation tactics' and actions towards the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and its officers.
The panel also commends Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull, MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations), who offered himself to be transferred instead of the duo for they were only acting on his orders.
However, the Panel is of the view that his offer to stand in place of the two officers, whilst honourable, is entirely unnecessary.
