Relatives of tabligh attendees should report their whereabouts - Ismail Sabri

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has called on relatives of tabligh attendees of a mass congregation at the Sri Petaling Mosque late last month to report to the authorities if they know their current locations.

He said as of Sunday, the police had tracked down nearly 9,000 attendees of the ijtima’ rally.

"I’d like to call on all the tabligh attendees of the rally to come forward for health screening and quarantine.

“The death that was reported in Sarawak was not only of a tabligh congregant but also of his family, which means family members too are exposed to high risks.

"I hope they would show up because the police have identified them and are going to their homes to track them down," he said at a press conference here on Sunday.

Ismail Sabri assured the tabligh attendees that they would not be arrested or placed in lockups but would instead be taken to clinics and hospitals.

"This is to protect the safety and health of attendees and their family members, so I call on relatives who know their whereabouts to report it," he said.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) had said earlier its investigation found that about 16,000 attendees of a mass rally at the Sei Petaling Mosque which took place between February 28 and March 2, involved 14,500 Malaysians.
