Religious teacher traumatised after being assaulted by two cops

A religious teacher was traumatised after claiming being handcuffed and assaulted by two policemen at a police station in Gurun, Kedah last Tuesday.

In the 10pm incident on Feb 9, Mohd Na'im Zakaria, 30, who teaches at Sekolah Kebangsaan Simpang 3, Sungai Daun, was on his way home in Kampung Haji Majid, Guar Cempedak, where he was stopped by the policemen who were manning a roadblock in front of the police station.

Mohd Na'im said the sergeant and a corporal then handcuffed him and forcibly brought him into the police station lock-up without informing what offence he had committed.

"As soon as we entered the police station, they started to kick and punch me in the back and dragged me in. They treated me like a real criminal."

"My head was bleeding and my wrists were swollen because they had cuffed me very tightly. I was also held in the lock up for almost five hours which left me deeply traumatised," he told reporters at a press conference here, Sunday.

Meanwhile, Kuala Muda police chief ACP Md Zukir Md Isa confirmed the incident and said an investigation was being conducted under Section 323 of the Penal Code (voluntarily causing hurt).

He said an internal disciplinary probe will also be conducted on the two.
