The remand order for the top-ranking officer in Penang Zakat (ZPP) has been extended four more days until Thursday by the Magistrate's Court here to help in the investigations into a case involving embezzlement of zakat (tithe) funds.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid who allowed the application by the Penang Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Also extended was the remand order for another senior ZPP officer.

Both officers arrived at the courts complex at 2.20pm yesterday, wearing the MACC lock-up clothes, and were seen leaving it at 3.15pm.

The top-ranking officer, in his 50s, had been remanded since May 9 with 11 other individuals.

Earlier this morning, three contractors who were remanded to help in the investigations into the same case were released on MACC bail of RM5,000 each.

Last Saturday, the MACC also released six people - four contractors on bail of RM5,000 each, and two ZPP officers, who were detained to help in the investigation, on bail of RM10,000 each.

On Sunday, the MACC released another contractor on bail of RM5,000.
