The Ministry of Education (MoE) has assured that the school reopening date will be announced two weeks beforehand.

Senior Minister (Education), Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, said he was aware of parents' concerns over the opening of the school session after the period of the Movement Control Order (MCO) ended, especially when it was necessary for preparations to be made.

He said the reopening of the school session would involve five million students nationwide.

"Generally, the findings from a series of discussions held show that the health and safety of students must be prioritized. The ministry understands that parents are concerned that they cannot properly prepare for school if they are reopened abruptly.

"The ministry will discuss with the Ministry of Health (MoH) to set the appropriate school opening date, and the ministry will announce the school opening date two weeks before school reopens," he said in a special media conference here today.

Currently, Dr Mohd Radzi said, the plan to reopen schools involved only students sitting for public examinations including Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM), Certificate of Vocational Malaysia (SVM), Certificate of Higher Education of Malaysia (STPM), Certificate of Islamic Higher Education of Malaysia (STAM) and equivalent international examinations.
