A report that four Malaysians purportedly are the latest victims of kidnap by a terrorist group in the southern Philippines, today was only a rumour.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the authorities of the Philippines did not receive any information on a kidnap as reported by the country's media.
"It was only a rumour and police also have not received any information on the report to date," he told Bernama.
A Philippine news report quoted Tawi-Tawi police chief, S/Supt Joselito Salido as saying that a group of unknown suspects had taken the Malaysian national hostages to the Sitankai beach, Tawi-Tawi before transferring them to Sulu.
Earlier, Khalid was reported to have said that the Royal Malaysian Police were still waiting for a report from the authorities of the Philippines on the country's media (kidnap) report.
