Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Datuk Jailani Johari urged members of the public to lodge police reports against those using the social media to sell fireworks, illegally.
Jailani who is also Hulu Terengganu MP said a complaint can also be lodged with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further action.
"We have provided the broadband infrastructure to facilitate dissemination of knowledge and information among the public. However, there are some who take the opportunity to sell and exhibit explosives such as fireworks, and so on.
"My advice to people out there is not to buy or sell (this items), because as far as I know these sellers can be charged with possessing explosives without a legitimate purpose under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, or fine of up to RM10,000 or both.
"Our role as internet users is to report individuals or parties who publish and sell fireworks," he told reporters during the breaking-of-fast ceremony at his parliamentary constituency here, yesterday.
