The society should extend their cooperation and have respect for enforcement personnel of government agencies as they are discharging the responsibilities entrusted upon them.
Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said the enforcement personnel were only carrying out orders as provided by the laws.
"If there are quarters not happy with the action taken against them, they can bring the matter to the higher authorities or the court. Let the authorities concerned to decide whether the personnel's action is valid under the law or otherwise.
"The society cannot take the laws into their own hands," he told reporters here after launching a mass circumcision ceremony here Saturday.
A total of 180 children, aged from two to 12 years, took part in the event which was organised by the Tanjung Karang UMNO Division.
Noh said this when commenting on an enforcement officer from the Shah Alam City Council who was roughened up by a husband and wife couple when carrying out her duty in Sungai Buloh on Thursday.
The couple was sentenced to 14 days' jail by the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court yesterday and also ordered to pay a fine of RM3,000, in default seven days jail.
Noh said all laws were formulated and enforced to protect the interest and security of the public and they must be respected.
"A law is meaningless if it is not enforced," he said. --Bernama
