In the effort to turn Pulau Bidong into a tourist spot for 'Visit Terengganu Year' next year, the state government has spent RM1.5 million preparing basic amenities.
The state's Tourism and Culture Committee deputy chairman Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman said the allocation was channelled through The Terengganu State Museum Board (LMNT).
"Pulau Bidong, which once housed a camp for Vietnamese refugees during the 70s, will be opened to tourists and the public from next year," he said.
"We are confident that once open, the island will attract many visitors, especially from Vietnam, who wish to know more about the island and its hidden memories," added Tengku Zaihan. - BERNAMA
