The government should consider reviewing some of the policies regarding citizenship registration in order to facilitate the process for individuals facing difficult situations.
MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said he would meet Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Home Minister, to discuss the matter.
"One of the problems faced is concerning the issue of foster children.
"Some of the children face difficulties in getting their citizenship certificates because their parents do not have Malaysian citizenship.
"This is just one example. There are many other cases that make it difficult for citizenship registration process," he said after attending the closing ceremony of Mega MyDaftar programme at the National Registration Department in Putrajaya today.
Subramaniam said, since the Mega MyDaftar programme was launched on June 5, more than 2,000 applications have been received.
"Every case will be carefully considered and looked into so that the citizenship process can take place for each applicant," he said.
