Right to self-defence has its limits: IGP

The rights for self-defence when confronted by a crime situation is not an absolute right to kill the criminals, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
He said members of the public should understand their rights and limits of self-defence as mentioned under Section 99 of the Penal Code.
"The section clearly outlines the rights and limits of self-defence, not just for the public, but for the policemen too. If someone robs us, that doesn't mean that we can kill them," he told reporters after attending a handing over of duties ceremony of Integrity and Standard Compliance Director, here yesterday.
He was commenting on the issue of a man who had been remanded for allegedly killing a robber in self-defence during a robbery case at his home in Kerteh, Terengganu.
The issue went viral on social media.
