At the same time, Ismail Sabri also reminded the people to maintain social distancing when making withdrawals at ATMs.
The government has decided to waive the RM1 charge on all automated teller machines (ATMs) to avoid congestion at the bank counters.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the exemption would take effect this Monday until the end of the Movement Control (MCO) period.
"We have been made to understand that many consumers use the bank counters because of the issue of ATMs charging RM1 each time they withdraw money.
"Therefore, through the Ministry of Finance, the government has decided that all banking institutions through paynet will exempt RM1 charge at all ATMs using MEPS.
"The RM1 exemption will commence on Monday until the end of the MCO and it will provide the opportunity to the people to use the ATMs," he said at a press conference here on Friday.
At the same time, he also reminded the people to maintain social distancing when making withdrawals at ATMs.
"I (want) to advise (the public) if they are no longer going into the banks, do not crowd at the ATMs. Social distancing of one meter must be adhered to,” he said.
The people are also encouraged to use online banking services to avoid congestion at the premises.
