A RM100,000 headscarf, dubbed the most expensive 'bawal' scarf in the world, received recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records today.
The founder of Bawal Exclusive, Haliza Masyuri said the 1.14 metre voile headscarf was embellished with 7,512 pieces of Swarovski crystals of different colours and shapes.
It took 12 Swarovski workers in Austria 13 days or 320 hours to complete it.
"The headscarf is a gift of appreciation from the international crystal producer to mark the long-time cooperation (between Bawal Exclusive and Swarovski)," she said at a ceremony to introduce the headscarf, here, today.
Bawal Exclusive offers a range of headscarves made from the voile, a soft, sheer fabric, and embellished with Swarovski crystals specially flown from Austria.
Hopefully, Haliza said, the creation of the headscarf would propel the local fashion and textile industry onto the international scene.
Inspired by the luxurious crystals she saw while attending a dinner event at Swarovski's headquarters in 2018, Haliza said she made a promise to capture its brilliance in her 'bawal' scarf creations.
She added that the honoured headscarf was not for sale and would be displayed at her new boutique, to be launched on Sept 1.
Meanwhile, Swarovski Malaysia sales manager, Teo Zi Wei said the headscarf was the longest project that the international company had undertaken.
"Selecting and placing the crystals were meticulously done and this was a challenge to the Austrian workers who are not familiar with the 'bawal' headscarf," she said.
Swarovski is also known to collaborate with international fashion brands such as Dior and Hermes.
