RM37 million allocation to implement Indian youth entrepreneur programme - Khairy

The Youth and Sports Ministry will develop an entrepreneurship training programme to encourage more participation from Indian youths.

Its Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin said through a RM37-million allocation, many programmes could be held with the co-operation of the Malaysian Indian Entrepreneurs Cooperative (KUIMB) and the New Affirmative Action Movement (NAAM). "We will discuss with the cooperative how to develop Indian youths, especially in the field of entrepreneurship and from there we will organise specific training programmes," he told reporters after attending The Entrepreneurs' Conference (TEC2020).

He said each programme would be fully monitored by the ministry through his deputy, Datuk M. Saravanan.

The conference, which was organised by KUIMB with the theme 'Power of Ideas' was a platform for local entrepreneurs to share ideas as well as expand their network of contacts.

Meanwhile, in his speech, Khairy said that entrepreneurs should be more innovative and creative in working towards a progressive and productive ecosystem. He said entrepreneurs should not depend on the government to provide solutions to their every problem.

"Do not look at the government for all the solutions. We (government) provide all the funding, support and encouragement. Malaysians must create that ecosystem through collaboration with each other in making our entrepreneurs more competitive in a global market," he said.
