RM700 bribe: Police sergeant charged
The police sergeant was charged under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if found guilty.
A police sergeant pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to a charge of receiving a RM700 bribe two years ago.
Rijali Solah, 55, of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Yan district police headquarters, is alleged to have accepted the bribe as an inducement for him to alter the result of a urine test of one Mohd Hizzam Hussin, 38, at Restoran Kak Chaq Ikan Bakar in Kuala Muda, near here on May 12, 2014.
He was charged under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if found guilty.
MACC deputy public prosecutor A. Hafiizh (rpt) Hafiizh Abu Bakar proposed bail of RM10,000 for Rijali who was represented by lawyer S. P. Raman. Raman appealed for leniency on the grounds that his client had three schooling children to support.
Judge Zanol Rashid Hussain set bail at RM7,000 in one surety and set Sept 26 for mention.
