A sum of RM900,000 has been allocated this year for the Single Mother Skill Incubator Programme (I-KIT) and Women Entrepreneurship Incubator Programme (I-KeuNita) to promote entrepreneurial skills among women and single mothers.
Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun said under the programmes, they would be given skill and entrepreneurship training under close supervision of the Department of Women's Development (JPW).
"The programmes will help them generate income based on the skills that they have acquired in various fields such as agrobusiness, home management, grooming, beauty treatment and tourism related activities," she said.
Chew said this when launching a vocational project under the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) Kuala Lumpur here today.
She said that until December last year, 5,058 single mothers had benefited from I-KIT while 7,719 low-income women had benefited from I-KeuNita.
Both programmes under the JPW were introduced in 2013 to empower women economically.
